Best Backup Software for Windows PC?
When it comes to backup software there are hundreds of products to choose
from. (As you will see if you visit the
backup software links
page.)
However, if you are looking for backup software for personal or small business
use, you can refine the selection down to just a handful with a few simple
criterion:
- Has the ability to backup a whole computer (also known hard disk
"imaging"). Why? If you are going to get backup software, you may as well get
something that can do a whole backup of your computer.
- Has been in development for more than a few years, and is currently in
active development, this can be usually seen by how frequently a new version
is released. Why? Because the longer it has been in development the less bugs
it should have, and more features.
- Is popular among computer users. Why? In theory the more users a software
has the more likely there are less bugs in the software, because most bugs
would have been reported to the software developer. Also, if the software has
a large user base, then the company is more likely to afford customer support.
To measure how popular a software product is, I have checked to see how many
times the software is mentioned on the Internet. For example a search for
"Norton Ghost" on Google will bring 6,870,000 pages mentioning those keywords.
- The software has some form of customer support (This probably rules out
all free software packages).
The following 7 backup software products fit the above description.
